The Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC) is troubled by the ongoing turmoil in Palestine. Witnessing the tragic loss of innocent lives and the escalation of the humanitarian crisis compels us to continue raising our voices in urgent appeal.

In Gaza alone, the death toll has soared above 30,000, with a staggering 70% of casualties comprising women and children.The situation has reached a critical juncture, with millions displaced and facing dire threats of starvation, disease, and death.

For the past six months, the impassioned pleas from Ontarians for decisive action have echoed across all levels of government. The lack of swift and robust action from the federal government to avert further loss of life and preserve Canada’s standing as a beacon of peace is deeply disheartening.

On March 18th, the House of Commons will deliberate on a motion presented by Canada’s NDP. CMPAC implores all citizens and Members of Parliament to support this motion. We join the NDP and continue to call for:

  • Suspending all trade in military goods and technology with Israel and intensifying efforts to curtail the illicit arms trade;
  • Upholding the rule of law by supporting the prosecution of all violations of international law and championing the efforts of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court;
  • Demanding unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza; and
  • Securing the safe passage of Canadians trapped in Gaza to Canada, and eliminating the arbitrary cap of 1000 temporary resident visa applications.

The Canadian government MUST take decisive action to halt the genocide and bring an end to this cycle of violence both in Gaza and the West Bank. We urge you to endorse the NDP motion and reaffirm Canada’s commitment to peace and justice in the Middle East.
