Increasingly, decisions taken under the current Immigration and Refugee Citizenship Canada (IRCC) administration have raised serious questions about whether the principles of fairness and due process are being applied consistently and without discrimination and whether IRCC is upholding its obligations to administer Canada’s immigration system fairly, transparently and in accordance with the law. Developments within the IRCC have weakened public confidence in the integrity of Canada’s immigration system.
Canadians rightly expect our immigration system to be administered fairly and consistently with the principles established in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and Canada’s international legal obligations. In this context, we are compelled to raise concerns regarding a series of policy decisions and administrative practices that, taken together, suggest a troubling departure from these principles.
More than 30 organizations and advocates have signed an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney calling for the removal of Minister Lena Diab and the appointment of new leadership at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The letter raises serious concerns regarding inconsistent immigration decision-making, unequal treatment of applicants, barriers to humanitarian pathways, visa refusals affecting academic and civil society engagement and declining public confidence in Canada’s immigration system
