On August 20th, as part of the #ArmsEmbargoNow Day of Action, the Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC) is calling on every Canadian to join us in demanding an immediate and comprehensive two-way arms embargo on Israel. The ongoing escalation of violence in Gaza, which has led to over 40,000 civilian casualties and the destruction of essential infrastructure, demands a firm and principled response from Canada.
CMPAC Demands the Following from the Canadian Government:
- Immediate Suspension of All Arms Trade: Canada must halt all military exports to and from Israel by enforcing a two-way arms embargo. This action is essential to prevent further violence and uphold Canada’s commitment to international law.
- Revocation of Existing Permits: The government should revoke all permits that currently allow the export of Canadian-made weapons and components to Israel. Given the ICJ’s findings, it is imperative that Canada ensures its exports do not contribute to violations of international law.
- Increased Transparency: Canada must enhance transparency in the export of weapons and components, especially those sent to the United States and then re-exported to Israel. This step is crucial to avoid indirect support for the illegal occupation.
This is a critical moment for Canadians to stand up for justice and human rights. Visit Arms Embargo Now today and learn how you can make a difference. Send emails, make phone calls, or use social media to contact your MPs and demand an end to the Canada-Israel arms trade. Your voice matters – together, we can help stop the flow of arms that fuel this crisis.
