From Friday, December 6 to Friday, December 13, we’re mobilizing a nationwide effort to urge Members of Parliament (MPs) to address critical flaws in Canada’s Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) program for Palestinians from Gaza. The program, originally introduced to support reunification for Gazan families with relatives in Canada, has failed to deliver due to restrictive policies and unnecessary barriers. The “Go to Your MP” action is a key part of this campaign – your voice and action can help make a difference.
Why This Campaign Matters
The TRV program for Palestinians in Gaza was intended as a humanitarian response to the ongoing violence in Gaza, yet systemic barriers continue to prevent families from reuniting in safety. To date, despite thousands of applications, very few have been able to reach Canada under this policy. It’s essential that we call for meaningful reforms that support the safe and dignified reunification of families.
How You Can Help
During this campaign week, we’re asking you to meet with your local MP and share the concerns of this program’s shortcomings. Our comprehensive CMPAC Toolkit provides everything you need to take action, including:
- Key Background: Understand the TRV program, its limitations, and the urgent need for reforms.
- Talking Points and Suggested Actions: Equipped with facts, you can have meaningful discussions with MPs and push for concrete changes.
- Action Steps: Guidance on arranging and following up after meetings with MPs, along with resources to help you make a strong case for change.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Your participation this week can amplify the call for justice and reunification. By raising awareness and speaking directly with MPs, we can increase pressure for reforms to the TRV program, including the removal of excessive requirements, diplomatic support for safe exits, and provision of essential settlement services.
How to Participate:
- Download the Toolkit: Access our toolkit here.
- Schedule a Meeting with Your MP: Use the talking points in the toolkit to discuss specific concerns and share the real impact of the TRV program’s limitations.
- Share on Social Media: Amplify your actions by posting on social media. Tag your MP, use hashtags like #GazaTRV and #FamilyReunification, and encourage others to get involved.
- Spread the Word: Let friends, family, and community members know about this campaign and encourage them to engage their own MPs.
By joining together, we can call on Canada to uphold its humanitarian commitments and support the families who need it most. Thank you for standing with us in solidarity and for making your voice heard.
