CMPAC, CJPME, and over 60 civil society organizations have sent a letter to Ontario’s Ministers of Public Safety and Attorney General, expressing their concern over the misuse of the Hate Crimes Working Group (HCWG) to target Palestinian-Canadians, Muslim-Canadians, and their allies advocating for Palestinian rights. The letter highlights the decision by Assistant Crown Attorney Moiz Karimjee to drop charges against Lorna Bernbaum, who assaulted a Palestinian activist, and condemns the HCWG’s role in politically motivated prosecutions against pro-Palestinian activists. The organizations call for the dismantling or reform of the HCWG, an independent investigation into Karimjee’s actions, the dropping of all politically motivated charges, and a recognition of anti-Palestinian racism in Ontario law.
